TRYING the KETO DIET (FAST WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE)

After checking our BMI (Body mass index) it said that we were slightly overweight for our height and age. Because of this we challenged ourselves to lose 5 kg in five days. After research on the internet and speaking to friends who had lost weight. We found that the best way to lose weight within a small timeframe was to follow a Ketogenic diet which involves cutting out carbs and sugar when possible and trying to limit the amount consumed to 50 g or under.

When you follow this diet, your body will enter a state of ketosis. This means that your body will stop using carbohydrates for energy and will start turning stored fat and protein into energy. Your body will turn into a fat burning machine that if combined with a calorific deficit (eating under the amount of calories required), you will lose weight.

When you cut out carbohydrates, and you start eating fat and protein you must be careful about the types of saturated fat that you are consuming and should try to get it from natural sources when possible as too much animal based fats can be bad for your heart. Your nutrition is equally as important, and cutting out carbs can mean that you are not getting the vitamins that your body needs to function. If you are considering the ‘Ketogenic diet’ you should first consult a doctor.
