KETO FLU explained. Blood pressure, water loss, inflammation and salt.

If you are producing ketones and feeling fine, skip this post and the other blogs that begin with KETO DIET 101.  These KETO DIET 101 articles review what can go wrong when you start a keto diet.

However, if you tried to produce ketones and you never turned your ketone test-strip pink, read these posts.  If you succeeded at keto for a time, but then something went wrong, read these KETO 101 posts.

If you are a worrier and you read on the internet all the ways this ‘crazy’ diet supposedly messes up your body, read this.

Keto-recap: A body fueled by sugar is chronically inflamed and in crisis. It is impossible to drip in the exact amount of carb fuel needed without going over or under your requirements.

More than a teaspoon of carbs pushes your body into releasing insulin. When glucose is your fuel, eating too little leads to a steady decrease in your metabolism.

Conversely, extra, unused glucose, rings your ‘insulin alarm’ triggering a spike of this hormone and continuing the cycle of inflammation.

Fueling your body with fat means no insulin. You rid yourself of the crisis.

GKI [GLUCOSE KETONE INDEX] = Glucose divided by 18 : Ketones

DR BOZ RATIO: Glucose divided by ketones.
This math was easier for my mom to do … and for my patients.

Dr Boz RATIO LESS THAN 80 [ comparable to a GKI of 4:1] = This is the weight loss zone. Some autophagy may be happening.

Dr Boz RATIO LESS THAN 40 [ comparable to a GKI of 2:1] = This zone has strong benefits with deep tissue/organ inflammation and auto-immune problems. (Leaky gut, brain fog, Crohn’s, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto’s) More autophagy should be happening.

Dr Boz RATIO LESS THAN 20 [ comparable to a GKI of 1:1] = This is the zone I use for patients with Cancer & extreme health issues. This was my mom’s category. This zone is really hard. No playing around. Make sure your doctor is watching you closely. Almost all that reach this zone are likely to have autophagy at this stage.

The two most common questions I get …

1) “Doc, what BLOOD METER do you recommend?”

ANSWER: FORACARE: http://bit.ly/2QKGmKG

For years my diabetics told me this system was great. I tried several others before I bought this one. I can’t count the number of times I have tested my blood only to get an ERROR message from the strip. Grrr. I hate that. FORACARE gets my vote because it is accurate and takes only ONE test strip to get the results. YES!!

2) “Doc, which Ketones-In-A-Can (aka exogenous ketones, BHB) do you recommend?”
EXOGENOUS KETONES BHB: Dr Boz BHB: (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/2GXLlSw

I don’t recommend these in everyone. I have times this is a great solution for my patients that are very overweight and trying to get used to burning ketones for fuel. All keto supplements should have magnesium in them. This one does.
I own this Dr Boz brand and the Dr Boz supplements.
